Adoray Home Health & Hospice is proud to celebrate the graduation of its second class of Dementia Care Champions, while also recognizing Western Wisconsin Health’s first graduating class through their collaborative Dementia Care Champion training program. Together, the two organizations are continuing their shared mission to being the experts in dementia care for Western Wisconsin communities.
This year, a combined total of 40 team members from Adoray and Western Wisconsin Health (WWH) completed their eight hours of specialized Dementia Care Champion training based on the nationally recognized Teepa Snow Positive Approach to Care® (PAC) philosophy. The evidence-based training equips healthcare professionals with practical tools to better understand cognitive change, improve communication, and provide compassionate, individualized support for those living with dementia.
While dementia care is often thought of as memory care, the training emphasizes that dementia care is truly brain care. By understanding how the brain changes over time, caregivers are better able to recognize and respond to the unmet and often unspoken needs behind behaviors, emotions, and communication challenges. These skills not only improve care for those living with dementia, but help healthcare professionals provide a higher level of person-centered care for all individuals they serve.
“This second graduating class is another powerful reminder of Adoray’s commitment to ensuring every team member has the skills and understanding needed to care for individuals living with dementia,” shared Amber Bettinger-Lytle, Director of Strategy, Marketing & Innovation at Adoray Home Health & Hospice. “What makes this especially meaningful is welcoming Western Wisconsin Health’s first graduating class alongside ours. By training teams across the healthcare continuum together, we are helping create smoother transitions from hospital to home care. Families can feel comfort knowing their loved one is being cared for by different teams, but with the same compassionate approach, understanding, and commitment to individualized care wherever they call home.”
Western Wisconsin Health also sees this partnership as an important investment in the wellbeing of patients and families throughout the region.
“At Western Wisconsin Health, we are deeply committed to supporting the mental and emotional wellbeing of every individual who comes through our doors,” said Alicia Meyers, Med-Surg RN Manager at Western Wisconsin Health. “As the number of patients experiencing cognitive change continues to grow, it is vital that our staff feel equipped with the tools and confidence to provide compassionate, person-centered care. Partnering with Adoray on this training allows our teams to better understand the needs behind behaviors and improve the experience for both patients and families during vulnerable moments in their healthcare journey.”
Adoray’s Guiding Light Dementia Care Program continues to expand to meet the growing needs of the community. In addition to specialized staff training, the program includes sensory engagement tools, robotic companion pets for hospice patients living with dementia, Dementia Live® training for community organizations and care facilities, free downloadable Dementia Care Resource Guides, and the annual Dementia Caregivers Conference.
As dementia continues to affect more families across Western Wisconsin, Adoray and Western Wisconsin Health remain committed to leading the way in evidence-based dementia education, support, and compassionate care, helping create a community where individuals living with dementia are embraced, understood, and supported throughout every stage of their journey.
