In August 2022, Adoray revitalized its Community-Based Palliative Care program, reaffirming its commitment to enhancing the quality of life through specialized care that treats the person as a whole, rather than just addressing their disease. This program works in close collaboration with patients’ primary care providers (PCPs) and is centered around family-focused care, which includes advance care planning, symptom management, care coordination, education, and support.
The care provided by Adoray’s interdisciplinary team is tailored to align with each patient's individual goals, easing suffering and improving overall well-being. This holistic approach doesn’t just benefit the patient but also extends its support to caregivers and families, who navigate the daily challenges associated with life-threatening illnesses, whether they be physical, psychological, social, or spiritual.
Over the past two years, Adoray’s Palliative Care program has served patients ranging from 49 to 101 years old, with the average patient age being 80. The program has made a significant impact across Adoray's five-county service area, supporting individuals living with conditions such as cancer, Alzheimer’s/Dementia, and heart, lung, and kidney diseases.
Globally, an estimated 40 million people require Palliative Care each year, with 78% of them residing in low- and middle-income areas. Adoray’s Palliative Care is designed to meet the needs of individuals at any stage of a serious illness, regardless of prognosis. It can be provided alongside curative treatments, making it a versatile and essential service.
As the population ages and the burden of non-communicable and some communicable diseases rises, the need for Palliative Care in Western Wisconsin will only continue to grow. Adoray’s program not only supports community members by allowing them to receive personalized care in the comfort of their homes but also alleviates pressure on local hospital systems by reducing rehospitalization rates.
