Date: Oct, 4 2024
October is the official National Healthy Lung Month. The main aim is to raise awareness about the growing number of chronic lung diseases.
Each year, more than 10 million people are diagnosed with chronic bronchitis in America alone. This is not even counting the 5 and 25 million people diagnosed with emphysema and asthma, respectively, at some point in their lives. Moreover, of all the cancers diagnosed in America, about 13% of cases are just of lung cancer, which is also the leading cancer killer.
In 2023, 21% of all patients cared for in our Home Health, Palliative, and Hospice programs had a primary diagnosis of lung disease or lung cancer.
How Home Health Care Can Help:
Home Health services provide a bridge between hospital care and a patient's home, offering skilled care and support for individuals living with lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and lung cancer. Home Health can help patients manage symptoms like difficulty breathing, fatigue, and coughing, allowing them to maintain independence and improve their quality of life.
Patients with lung disease or lung cancer may need assistance with medication management, oxygen therapy, and rehabilitation exercises, all of which can be addressed by a skilled nursing team through Home Health. Additionally, respiratory therapy services may be offered to help improve lung function and manage symptoms.
The goal of Home Health is to help individuals stay in their own homes, avoid hospitalizations, and maintain the highest level of independence possible. By working closely with a patient’s healthcare team, Adoray Home Health can create a personalized care plan to manage symptoms and provide education on how to live well with lung disease.
If your loved one is recovering from surgery, experiencing frequent flare-ups, or needing help managing their lung disease at home, Adoray’s Home Health services can provide vital support, empowering patients and their families with the resources they need to live more comfortably.
How Hospice Care Can Help:
Hospice care is a type of care that focuses on providing comfort and support to individuals who are facing a life-limiting illness. Hospice care for patients with lung disease, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other forms of lung disease, is available when curative or restorative treatments are no longer effective. Hospice care for lung disease patients aims to manage symptoms, including shortness of breath and pain, while prioritizing patient comfort. Hospice care can help relieve the burden of care on family caregivers and increase the quality of life for patients with advanced pulmonary fibrosis.
Adoray Hospice also provides emotional and spiritual support to patients and their families. Our hospice team includes physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and other healthcare professionals who work together to provide comprehensive care that addresses the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and their families.
